Take a peek into the history of one of the most "happening" cities of the world - San Francisco!
European discovery and exploration of the San Francisco Bay Area and its islands began in 1542 and culminated with the mapping of the bay in 1775. Since then the city has never looked back and continued to make the headlines for one reason or the other. Besides offering unmatched charms to visitors and citizens alike, the city also took the lead in organizing labor.
In the first decade of the twentieth century, organized labor in San Francisco exercised more power and influence than labor in any other major American metropolitan area. The Union Labor Party (ULP) was formed in 1901, to represent the interests of the city's workingmen, and it wasn’t long before the shipping companies, the railways and the local government felt its influence. |
Between 1905 and the street railway strike of May 1907, an earthquake, charges of corruption against the mayor and almost all the supervisors, and a struggle for political control between local reform elements and controlling labor interests changed San Francisco politics. This, however, did little to diminish the city’s fascinating allurements.
This historic set of DVDs provides a close up view of various aspects of life in the Jewel city in a charmingly informative manner and explains, at least partly, what prompted Senator Robert Kennedy to say, "I love this city. If I am elected, I will move the white House to San Francisco!"

Bridging San Francisco Bay
This film is an absorbing account of how the Golden Gate Bridge was designed and constructed. It has some fascinating footage of the bridge men putting their lives at great risk to put cables and sections of the bridge in place, at times 500 feet above the water. Without the fabulously detailed narration, which supports the magnificent visuals, much of the significance of the film would have been lost.

CUSTOMER'S REVIEWS:
"As a third generation San Franciscan, I seldom miss an opportunity to learn about the city’s colorful history. This set of DVDs is absolutely outstanding. It covers a lot of ground and is a historic gem. I’d sure like to meet the guy who wrote the thrilling script for the clip entitled Brooklyn Goes to San Francisco. It is the most fascinating travelogue on San Francisco I have ever seen. Of course, like all other San Franciscans, I would never agree with the not so subtle suggestion that Brooklyn is a better place than our San Francisco! Yes, like all other cities, we have our share of crimes and other problems, but the charms of the city easily outweigh these. I have just one thin to say about these DVDs - they are fascinating!"
