History of World War II - The Pearl Harbor Bombing DVD

History of World War II - The Pearl Harbor Bombing DVD

Witness the biggest surprise attack on the United States before 9/11 on this incredibly moving DVD!

Japan’s desire to become masters of the planet was recognized quite early when the island nation attacked China and annexed Manchuria. Japan now wished to add the resource-rich South Asian countries like the Philippines, Burma and India to its empire, and perused this dream with characteristic zest.

One major obstacle in Japan’s path to global conquest was the United States, which already had a sizeable presence in the Pacific region. The Japanese knew it was inevitable that the U.S. would enter the war. President Roosevelt had made America’s intentions of keeping the Pacific sector free from occupation quite clear.

Japan decided to do what they knew best - attack! The Japanese believed that attacking first and without warning would give them an unassailable advantage over the Americans. They also knew that an attack on the strategically placed Pearl Harbor which housed a large portion of American Navy in the Pacific, would cripple the fleet and discourage the United States from getting more involved in the war.

What followed was one of the deadliest air attacks in history, which at least for a short while served its purpose - to stun and disable the American Navy and Air Force.

This DVD presents a synopsis of the events in Europe that led Japan to attack the American Naval Base at Pearl Harbor and thus invoke the wrath of a mighty nation. It also contains graphic footage of the actual air attack on Pearl Harbor and the destruction it caused.

World at War
This U.S. Department of War film retraces the events in war torn Europe, which finally drew the United States into the war. The film portrays Hitler’s ruthlessness in conquering defenseless nations without warning and his utter disregard for the treaties signed after World War I. The film also captures the havoc caused by German bombing of defenseless cities and towns and explains why the United States decided to join hands with the allies in waging a full-scale counterattack on the axis. These events preceded Japan’s well-planned attack on American ships in Pearl Harbor.

EDITORIAL REVIEW:

An Armed Forces recruiting poster from 1942 reads "…we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain.. Remember Dec. 7th!" Yes, any patriotic American will not easily forget December 7th 1941. It was on this fateful day that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and inadvertently changed the course of World War II.

This DVD presents a gripping account of this dastardly Japanese act. It is commonly believed that this attack on Pearl Harbor was both premeditated and unannounced. One cannot blame Japan for the premeditation - any attack that was as well executed and as large in scale as this one, definitely required weeks, maybe months of careful planning. Experts like Robert Stinnet, a World War II Naval Veteran -turned author, however, disagree with the fact that president Franklin Roosevelt was ignorant of Japans plans. In his book Day of Deceit: The Truth About Franklin D. Roosevelt and Pearl Harbor, Stinnet presents documentary evidence to support his claims.

Be that as it may, this DVD tells the story of the attack and the aftermath in a gripping manner. The use of live clips shot by brave cameramen who risked being shot and burnt alive in the fires that raged immediately after the attack add to the terrifying reality and horror of the attack. America’s resolve to fight back, too, is captured in a convincing manner.

The clips that precede the shots of Pearl Harbor under attack, recount the beginnings of the evil, ugly war in far away Europe, where Hitler, having deceived his neighbors into complacency, attacked and conquered much of Western Europe, before England and France could retaliate.

Although this DVD presents an American perspective of the war, it does so in a factual, realistic manner. The films in this DVD were produced with the intention of informing, educating and motivating American citizens who were momentarily demoralized by the attack on Pearl Harbor and galvanizing the country into retaliatory action. I am confident that these purposes were met, and America’s thumping win in the war is ample proof of this.

CUSTOMER'S REVIEWS:

"Although I am a very Patriotic American at heart who never fails to salute the Stars and Stripes, I could never understand our lack of initiative in preventing the attack on Pearl Harbor. One can never condone the shameful attack on a friendly country that had rushed millions of dollars in aid after the quake of ’23. This DVD has some fascinating images of Pearl Harbor both during and after the air attack, but the ones I loved were those of U.S marines retaliating. The clips on the war in Europe too, are great. Thanks a2zcds for reminding me of the great sacrifice my countrymen made during WW II."

"Thanks everybody at a2zcds for this terrific visual feast on the war in Europe and in the Pacific. My granddad says he bought a lot of war bonds after seeing one of the documentaries seen on this DVD way back in the 40s, and I guess I would have bought some myself."
