History of World War II - Voice of Victory DVD

History of World War II - Voice of Victory DVD

Witness how the radio made waves during World War II by enabling instant communications between the command post and the men in action!

With the introduction of technologically advanced weapons and equipment in war - such as the swift battle tanks, powerful naval ships and speedy warplanes - the need for quick and accurate communication became absolutely essential during World War II. Marconi’s 1895 invention, the radio had undergone considerable refinement by the time the war began and it wasn’t long before the radio became an essential part of the war effort.

By 1941, low powered, medium and high frequency radios were widely fitted for voice communications within task groups and convoys. VHF voice radio was slowly being adopted thanks to developments in the RAF. During the period 1943 to 1945, the most important advance in wireless communications, was the strategic use of voice radio. This explosion of voice radio reduced the amount of communication passed by flag or light signals.

The portable versions of the radio seen in this DVD changed the way the armed forces communicated making exchange of vital information more speedy and effective than ever before.

EDITORIAL REVIEW :

The role of communication during war cannot be undermined. From the earliest means of exchanging information, such as smoke signals and messenger- pigeons, communications had come a long way by the time the world entered into the second global conflict.

This DVD captures the significant role played by wireless radio in coordinating attacks on the enemy. Through convincing and realistic reenactments, the film Communications and communicators facilitate World War II. (1944), enlightens you on the rigorous training radio operators had to undergo before being sent into action. Clips illustrating how the radio was used to coordinate movements of planes, ships and tanks and to direct artillery fire with unprecedented accuracy and precision hold you spellbound.

The Clip "Voice of Victory" bears the hallmark of master documentary maker Jam Handy and provides an insight into the adaptation of the Hallicrafters HT-4 Radio Transmitter and Receiver for use on rugged battlefields the world over. Handy’s penchant for detail is pretty much evident here. You will also witness America’s efforts at preserving her hard-earned democracy in the clip entitled Tuesday in November, which exemplifies the democratic process of electing the government despite the war. The clip also reveals how the radio was put to good use for peaceful purposes in broadcasting the results of the presidential elections.

All in all, this DVD is entertaining while being informative and is certain to delight all those who are curios to learn how the United States ended up on the wining side in World War II.

CUSTOMER'S REVIEWS :

"This DVD was made for guys like me who are crazy about World War II Documentaries. Oh yes there are a lot of movies about the war, but these have a predictable quality about them. Documentaries such as the ones on this DVD provide realistic record of events and personalities even if they are reenacted, and I was delighted by the well-deserved credit given to the radio and to radio operators for playing a telling role in bringing victory to The United States."
